Mission Date:

Staging Time:

Briefing Time:

01:15 PM

In Position Time Or KSU:

Details Of Part 1:

We will stage at Alliance Airport underneath the control tower. There is a gate to go through. If you get there prior to my arrival, wait outside the gate until I get there to get our clearance. Many of us will be coming from DFW Airport as a group. (The group is signed up for Snowball Express.) If you did not signup for Snowball, then stage at the appropriate time and location at Alliance outside the gate. Once I arrive and get clearance, we will stage on the tarmac in the order of the procession for departure.

After the Kalitta Charter arrives and the Patriot is loaded into the coach, we will proceed to our bikes and prepare for departure. We will escort to Mt. Olivet Funeral Home on Sylvania and NE 28th street in Fort Worth, where we will present honors as they remove PFC Staggs from the coach. Upon dismissal, all Snowball riders will return to DFW Airport and resume the escorts to the Sheraton. Watch your fuel, if you have to stop and get fuel, do it during a non-escort period of time. The same for lunch and supper. Be sure to let your platoon Captain know you are stopping so we can keep an accurate count of the riders. We do not want to lose anyone. This will be a very "Semper Gumby" day.

Remember, all formations will be very tight. So if you are uncomfortable with riding in a very tight formation in heavy traffic, please see me and I will find something else for you to do. There is plenty to do. Safety is our most important concern.

Also, for those signed up for Snowball, go to DFW Airport for Snowball staging time and we will leave from there to go to Alliance for the KIA mission. If you did not sign up for Snowball go to Alliance and stage at the appropriate time outside to gate. LEO will be provided.

Ride safe and I will see you on Thursday.

Weather Conditions: Weather was warm on Thursday; cool Friday night. Saturday turned colder but the sun came out and helped to make it a great mission of honoring this hero.

This was a four part mission.

Part One: The arrival of PFC Austin Staggs at Alliance Airport on 12-9-2010 at 1350 hours. There were over 100+ PGR riders gathered to present honors to this hero. After the arrival we prepared for the escort to the funeral home in north Fort Worth, Texas, about 35 miles away. We were honored to have the Fort Worth Police department motorcycle unit provide an escort to the funeral home. They shutdown I-35W and made it very safe for all concerned. There was an estimated 82 bikes and 5 cages, plus the coach and many family cars in the procession.

Part Two: We stood a flag line at the funeral home on 12-10-2010 from 1800 to 2000 hours in honor of the family and Private Staggs. FFFFF; text-align: left;">

Part Three: We stood a flag line at the First Baptist church in Weatherford, Texas, for the funeral service. We began at 1030 hours. After the service was over, we were stage in three lines behind the coach and presented honors as Private Staggs was loaded into the coach.

Part Four: With the services of four different police agencies, we escorted Private Staggs and the entire funeral procession to Mt Olivet Cemetery in North Fort Worth. We counted over 125 bikes and 7 cages of PGR riders. As we made our way to Fort Worth in I-30, I20 and Loop 820 there were thousands of people on either side of the road presenting honors to this hero. The procession stretched out over a mile and a half. We were told it was a very moving sight to see all these riders and family and friends honoring Austin. Private Staggs is a hometown hero in every sense of the word. We only traveled about 25 -30 miles per hour for the 50+ miles to the interment site. The LEO again shut down all roads and made us feel very safe. When we arrived at the cemetery, all riders stood tall and silent around the entire service of family and friends. What a privilege to honor this great hero for giving the ultimate price for all of us. There wasn't a dry eye in the entire group.

I want to thank Austin's family for allowing the PGR the privilege of honoring their hero. It was such a great honor for us.
